Sunday Psalm: Thankfulness

Today was the most beautiful October 1st, ushering in fall with a gentle breeze and a copper tone.  I am so thankful for a little cooler weather even though I really do like the fun, hot summers.

I may be a little early for the turkey and dressing; but bring on the thankfulness!

My youngest daughter, Kaitlyn, read Psalm 50 to me the other day and verse 23 really stood out to me.  So much so, I reread it several times.  (I love that God’s Word gives us something every time we read it).

“He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God.”  Psalm 50:23

“Sacrifices thank offerings…”  We lay before God a sacrifice of ourselves and our human desires.  We move past our worries, our hurts, our insecurities, our anger, our selfishness and our fears. We step away from our own “baggage” and humbly give Him our thankful hearts.

Let’s not let all our “wants” crowd out our “thanks.”

Consider the purity and joy of a child grateful for a special gift.  My mom has always said to my four brothers and me, “All I want is grateful children.”  Now, as a parent, I get that.  I look forward to seeing the joy and thankfulness in my children’s faces.  Our gratefulness brings pleasure to our Heavenly Father.  Our sacrifice of thankfulness is honest and pure.  It says, “I am putting my faith in you, God.  Regardless of my temporary struggles; I honor You, my God and my Creator.”

Thankfulness is a beautiful sacrifice to our God, who loves us.

“Prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God…”  By turning our focus away from our worldly concerns and giving our thank offerings, we are preparing the way.  Preparing the way for God to work in our lives and preparing the way for peace to fill our minds.  We are making space for courage, comfort and hope to propel us beyond our own worries.

We bring thankfulness and our hearts open to God’s salvation.

May we all open our hearts today and offer sacrifices of thanks.  May we count our blessings and praise His holy name.

Know that God has a plan for our salvation and delights in our gratefulness.

Thank you Lord!

Spur Daily,  Nikki
