Rooted in the Gardener

The deep red color of this pomegranate fruit is so beautiful.  Unlike an apple or pear, where the fruit is basically one piece, the pomegranate fruit is all of these little seeds together.  They remind me of the fruit of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…

They are all different qualities; but they make up one fruit.  A fruit produced within us by God’s own Spirit.

Sometimes we say “I will work on patience” or “I will try to be more self-controlled.”  We buy self-help books or attempt to practice one quality or another.  No matter how valiant the effort, it is difficult to accomplish on our own.

We need our Gardener…we need our God.

The fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians is what is produced in us when we are rooted in God.

When we are growing in our walk with the Lord, being pruned by our Gardener, fed the meat of God’s Word and drinking the Living Water; we are producing the fruit of the Spirit in our lives.

This week we received a great, and much needed, rain.  All of this moisture is being followed by days of sunshine.  The green shoots of my daffodils are busting through the soil and Spring is just around the corner.  Many gardeners will be planting and tending the next few, wonderful months.  Fruit will be produced…

Plant yourself in God’s Word and let His light shine in you.  The fruit of the Spirit will be produced in you.  May you experience a renewed sense of joy and peace as we approach another Spring!

With Love,  Nikki
