Aging and Perspective
How can I age gracefully?
May 9th is my 53rd birthday.
I don’t mind sharing my age because aging is a gift not everyone gets to enjoy. My mom has always been an excellent example to me on this subject. She has told me through each decade, “Enjoy every age.” She is now in her 70’s and goes about every day with an amazingly positive attitude.
Of course, I can be hard on myself. I even hesitated in sharing this early morning image of myself at the gym without makeup. I see the age, the wrinkles, the sagging neck. But those things are not WHO I am. They are only a part of the shell I get to live in while on this earth. In my short lifetime, I have earned wisdom and experience. I have been given hands to work hard and to help others. I carry a heart that beats with love and offers compassion. My legs give me opportunities to walk with my dog, run with my granddaughter or straddle my horse.
Everyday I am still learning new things and about life…
Over the past year, I have learned a lot about gratitude. It is an amazing gift to give yourself. It brings peace to an anxious heart and joy to a weary soul. Gratitude changes our perspective on every situation. Gratitude propels us forward into a future full of hope. Every morning before getting out of bed, I thank God in detail for my previous day. Everything I can remember. Nothing is too big or too small. I have found this practice of gratitude brings joy and the anticipation of another day.
Sure, I am going to do everything I can to take care of my skin and body (lift weights & eat protein ladies😉) But gratitude is my focus as I near another birthday. Thankful for the time I have been so graciously given.
I encourage you today to practice gratitude and count your blessings.
With love,
Nikki
