Grandma Dorothy
The Legacy of a Wonderful Grandmother
This is my daughter, Kye, showing at a county fair 4-H show. But I want to call your attention to the elderly woman sitting just behind the rail of the arena. She’s perched in a old style aluminum folding chair with a plastic woven seat that she brought with her. She would sit there all day, watching every horse and every rider. She used to be quite the cowgirl herself and taught her own kids to ride. She was always fiercely competitive in horse events, high school basketball, bowling, card games and golf; a game she picked up after the age of 50 and won several trophies. She was 86 when this picture was taken and still walked a mile every morning and a mile every evening. Regular exercise kept her going strong and serving her family will into her eighties. She was my Grandmother Dorothy and the end of March is her birthday. She loved her family and wrote letters to me when I was growing up that I still treasure. It was my honor to hold her hand as she took her last breath on this earth and her beautiful soul passed on to her eternal home. She is my inspiration to try new things no matter your age and to enjoy a life well lived.
Miss you Grandma. Happy Birthday. Love, Nikki
